Tesla (テスラ, Tesura) is a supporting character in Suikoden who makes a cameo appearance in Suikoden II. A scrivener who did not wish to be called for the war effort; Tesla nevertheless found himself working for the Toran Liberation Army.
History

Tesla was a skilled scrivener known for his preference for a quiet and peaceful life. Acquainted with Mathiu Silverberg, he had previously worked as a document forger under Mathiu's supervision to facilitate smuggling activities. Recognizing Tesla's talent, Mathiu would later hand-pick him for recruitment into the Toran Liberation Army.
After settling down in Antei under the alias of Albert Onyx following Mathiu's departure from imperial service, Tesla sought to distance himself from his past and lead a tranquil existence as a scrivener. However, when members of the Liberation Army, including Viktor, sought his services, Tesla's pseudonym was quickly uncovered. Reluctantly, he agreed to travel to Toran Castle alone to fulfill the task he was given.
Despite his initial hesitancy to join the Liberation Army, Tesla devoted himself to his assigned responsibilities. Collaborating with Kimberly, he crafted perfectly forged Fake Orders that enabled the Liberation Army to successfully rescue Liukan from Soniere Prison.
Throughout the Gate Rune War, Tesla expressed a strong aversion to fighting and often yearned to return to his home in Antei, emphasizing the need to tidy his dwelling, though he seemed resigned to his situation in truth.
Following the conclusion of the Gate Rune War, Tesla's exceptional clerical abilities earned him the appointment as the Secretary of State in the newly formed Toran Republic, a position bestowed upon him by President Lepant. During the Dunan Unification War, Tesla served as one of Lepant's advisers when the hero visited Gregminster.

Trivia
- Nikola Tesla (1856 - 1943) was a Yugoslavian inventor and engineer in electricity. He worked a lot on the conversions of energy and is the author of over 900 patents.
- During his interrogation with Viktor, Tesla creates a whole string of made-up relatives, including his mother, Marianne Onyx, his father Allen Onyx and his grandmother, Leah Onyx.
- Tesla's post in the Toran Republic is given in the English localization as "Secretary-General", however a more literal translation would be "Secretary of the Toran Republic". The Genso Suikoden Encyclopaedia also gives his title as "Secretary of the Republic", another way of saying "Secretary of State".
