Helmut (ヘルムート, Herumūto) is a supporting character in Suikoden IV. Helmut is a captain with the Kooluk Empire's navy.
History

Helmut was the son of Colton and captained the Razril occupation forces during the Island Liberation War. As an Kooluk officer, he was considered highly competent, which is why he was entrusted with such a responsibility despite his young age.
As overseer of the Razril occupation, he had to order his men to disperse Razril protestors when they shot fire arrows at Snowe Vingerhut on his return from his failed anti-pirate endeavor.
Later during the Island Liberation War, when the Kooluk Mixed Fleet was defeated in battle, Helmut was also shown to be an officer who cared for his men when he agreed to surrender peacefully in exchange for the lives of his men. In exchange, he would not be executed himself but would join the Allied Forces for the remainder of the war.
He would later be reunited with his father, who was taken prisoner after the liberation of Obel but chose not to reveal this information to his new allies. Helmut apologized to his father for what he saw as his betrayal but would be absolved by Colton who remarked that there was more to the world than Kooluk.
Once the war ended, he disappeared alongside his father and was not seen since.

Trivia
- Helmut's weapon upgrades in a way similar as the swords of those from the Warriors' Village, but without a special name: Officer's Sword, Officer's Sword +, and Officer's Sword ++.
