Mariel (マリエル, Marieru) is a character from Genso Suikoden Short Story Collection 3. She was a maid who served Sara Blight in L'Renouille Palace.
History
Mariel was a plump and matronly woman, approaching old age and had been in the service of the Blight family in L'Renouille Palace for a long time. She was originally the nanny of Sara Blight and had come with her to the royal palace when Sara was betrothed to Agares Blight.
She was a popular woman in the palace and was something like a grandmother to the young Luca Blight. Whenever Luca lost a tooth as a child, Mariel would take the tooth and cast a spell to ensure a healthy new tooth grew in its place.
Though incredibly upset herself, and knowing the true extent of Sara's trauma, she would try to assuage the young prince's fears and encouraged him not to bottle up his feelings following his mother's breakdown.
The next day, Mariel was taken from her position in the palace and assigned to care for Sara. Luca would be told she had fallen ill and returned to her village.
By the time Luca met her again in Kyaro Town, her physical health had also degraded, with her becoming thin and her grey hair turning white, from the stress of caring for Sara's condition. She would pass away from stress soon after Sara's death.
