Haleth (ハレス, Haresu) is a minor character in Suikoden V. Haleth is a corrupt clerk in the service of Hershville Naval Base, always looking for the opportunity to make some potch on the side.
History
Haleth was a middle-aged man who worked as an administrative clerk in the Godwin-run Hershville Naval Base. A big-time gambler, Haleth was a corrupt official often taking bribes and the like and engaging in such shady dealing as forging documents and embezzlement. In the past, he had also helped Logg and Gunde's fugitive-running operation by forging passports and IDs.
During the Sun Rune War, he made several bets with other administrators, placing his money on a victory for the Imperial City Recapture Army. To that end, he started supplying cheap materials and weapons, in secret, to the rebel forces via Logg. Eventually, however, his corruption, both positive and negative, were uncovered and he was forced to flee Hershville to avoid arrest and execution.
Eventually making his way to Ceras Lake, Haleth was invited to join the army. He agreed, stating that he could do his best to help win the bet he had made at least. He then organized betting on dragon horse races which quickly became a popular pastime among the Feitas Dragon Cavalry, even if they officially didn't approve. He considered Linfa to be an amateur at gambling and even regarded her as a sucker, remarking that gambling was serious business.
Following the war, and the Recapture Army's victory, Haleth quickly began making the rounds among his former associates to collect on his bets.
