Rigel (リゲル, Rigeru) is a character from Genso Suikoden Short Story Collection 3. He was the leader of a mercenary band under contract for the Highland Army.
History
Rigel was the leader of a Highland Army mercenary force that occupied a village on the border between the Highland Kingdom and the Matilda Knightdom.
His voice suggested he was in his forties, but he had a well-trained, lean physique. He had long black hair, tied up in a short tail. He had a strong jawline, marked with white sword scars.
He had been deployed to what he considered menial tasks and, as such, was a lax commander. His men spoke casually and drank heavily.
Still, he was not unintelligent. When Camus and Miklotov attempted to pass as soldiers from L'Renouille, Rigel was able to uncover their lie with a well placed lie of his own and held onto that information until it benefitted him to reveal it.
When the Matilda Knights set the village ablaze, he would attack Miklotov. The two traded blows with Rigel's unorthodox but strong sword strikes throwing the blue knight off-kilter. Miklotov was able to fight back and had Rigel's throat at swordpoint but Rigel responded by pulling a knife to Miklotov's stomach.
Their duel was interrupted by Camus and Rigel agreed to withdraw without further incident. As a mercenary, he reasoned he had been ordered to take the village, not to defend it.
Though a mercenary, he had some amount of glib respect for Camus and Miklotov. He would let them know where their captured blue knights were, to avoid them dying in the inferno and also wondered if the two knights could bring light to the land.
